Episode 5: How to close your integrity gap

Let's talk about How to close your integrity gap

Welcome to the Self-Pefromnace-Strategies (S-P-S) Podcast

"Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away."

Core takeaway

How you show up vs. how you want to show up

You set high expectations for yourself, and when you don't meet those expectations, it hurts.

This is the daily mental and emotional weight you put on yourself daily.

You have this idea that you must be hitting personal bests daily to win in life.

Questions for you:

How many personal bests does Usain Bolt have in the 100 metres dash?

He has ONE

Yes, he has a lot of days that come close to that, but at any point, he only has one personal best.

So how do top athletes and entrepreneurs succeed?

They focus on removing anything that stops them from succeeding.

It is easier to close your Integrity Gap by removing all the dumb sh*t, energy vampires, and time-wasting activities from your day.

You don't have to show up and break personal bests daily.

You only need to focus on not dipping down into the activities that derail your day and energy.

How to close your Integrity Gap and stop self-sabotaging your results

The biggest blockage in your business is your self-performance.

Let me show you how to get out of your way.

Gurus get it wrong

Yes, I said that.

Over 90% of productivity coaches will tell you to raise your bar.

Be better, create frameworks, or have an optimized daily schedule.

These "gurus" are way off, in my opinion.

The way to close your Integrity Gap and improve results is by doing less dumb sh*t.

Let me walk you through 4 key areas that help you do less dumb sh*t and close your Integrity Gap.

Fear of trying:

There are areas in life right now where you fear change.

You are stuck doing what you are used to, and it no longer serves you.

Mentally and emotionally, you get attached to bad habits and routines that slow you down.

I have a client that knew they needed to drop or delegate low-value work.

But each day, they didn't.

Then each day went the same way.

Frustration, overwhelm, and stress.

They expected hiring help would cause more stress.

They were wrong.

It helped immensely.

Your hedonistic parts:

You all have them.

You all do some amount of dumb sh*t each day.

From too much TV, social media, or overeating.

I have a client that thought it was okay to unwind every night with a few beers.

He would stay up later than planned, affecting his sleep.

What do you think happened when he stopped doing that every night?

His sleep got better

He was fresher each day

He ended up being more focused

Trust me when I say:

You are doing something dumb in your life that is slowing you down.

Repeating your actions:

You have all done this, repeating the same actions over and over again.

Hoping this time they will work, but it doesn't.

A client continually over-scheduled his days and weeks.

He was constantly beating himself for not staying on track.

He always thought he just needed more discipline.

He expected he should be able to work 12 hours a day and still have time for his family.

He had a to-do list each day longer than his arm.

We cut that list down to 3 things a day, and he started stacking wins.

Having a massive to-do list is dumb.

Not going all-in:

Going 100% in on 1 thing is easier than 80% on 3 things.

Most of the clients I help struggle with procrastination because they dabble with several ideas at a time.

They get overwhelmed and don't know their next step, so they do dumb sh*t instead.

With one client, we got explicitly clear on their key pillars in life.

Then he wrote all the activities they did each day that had nothing to do with those pillars.

Over the coming weeks, he dropped or delegated a huge list of tasks, most of which were low-value or dumb sh*t.

Close your integrity gap

I am sure you can now see how you are doing several activities daily that are keeping you back.

You are stopping you from becoming the person you want to be.

And it's not because you haven't raised your bar.

It's because you are doing dumb sh*t.

Harsh but true.
