Episode 9: Do you learn with purpose?

Do you learn with purpose?

Welcome to the Self-Performance Strategies Podcast.

The main quote:

"Learning is not attained by chance; it must be sought for with ardour and attended to with diligence."

― Abigail Adams

The main takeaways:

 The learning Loop:

If you understand how to learn new skills, you will acquire them faster.

10% Of learning comes from courses, books, podcasts etc.

20% Discussing ideas with people.

70% Comes from doing it.

Now, look at the skills you are currently learning and ask, are you in the 30% or the 70%?

The whole process is essential, but many get trapped in the early stages.

Knowledge + Action = Skills:

As Albert Einstein (TV show version) said:

"Any fool can know. The point is to understand."

To avoid procrastination, overwhelm, and frustration, you must learn and take action as quickly as possible.

While learning can be fun, it can also be a trap.

Learning is not action.

You're probably working constantly on getting better if you're like me.

This means you spend a lot of time:

- Reading books

- Listening to podcasts

- Doing online courses

Trying to consume and absorb as much information as you can.

However, this can quickly turn into just learning for the sake of learning.

You end up reading books, listening to podcasts, attending webinars, workshops, and doing courses.

Even though you know the content is not relevant to your current situation.

You may find yourself overwhelmed.

You might even snap and decide success is not for you.

This is why you need to consume with purpose.

So what does this look like?

It means ensuring that the books you read, the podcasts you listen to, and the courses you complete link to an issue or roadblock you face in life, in your side hustle, career, or business.

You no longer just read the next bestseller on Amazon for business, marketing, or personal development.
You no longer listened to every episode of the same podcasts.
You stop going to workshops just because they are on.
You start buying the right courses at the right time.

You need to slow down and start to dissect what is currently going on:
- In your life
- In your work
- In your projects
- Or in any other area you are improving

Then find the resources that address these questions.

This will help you reach your goals more efficiently.

Sound's simple, but consuming with a purpose is a huge mental breakthrough many don't achieve in life.

When you have a focus on your learning, you focus on the right knowledge.

This, in turn, helps you take daily action in the right areas of your life.

This strategy makes consuming more enjoyable.

Since you can onboard new information, take something away from it, and start implementing and improving right away.

Always remember that:

Knowledge + Action = Skills

Consume with a purpose and see your life change.

When have you got lost learning with no purpose?
